We're a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training college serving every corner of the Northern Cape — from the iron-ore mines of Kathu to the copper coast of Namaqualand. For over thirty years we've turned ambition into employable skill: artisans, chefs, electricians, ECD practitioners and entrepreneurs who carry our province forward.
Northern Cape Rural TVET College was established in 1994 as one of the Department of Higher Education and Training's public colleges, tasked with bringing vocational education to a province that's both vast and sparsely populated. While urban TVETs serve dense centres, our challenge has always been different: get quality artisan and business training to learners across the largest geographic province in South Africa.
We solved it with five campuses — each anchored in a regional economy and specialising in the trades that area needs. Kathu serves the iron-ore mines with engineering and mining qualifications. Upington, our HQ, leads in renewable energy, business and hospitality. Namaqualand hosts our QCTO Trade Test Centre. Kuruman focuses on safety and logistics. De Aar serves the Pixley ka Seme District with business and administrative training.
Today we enrol roughly 4,090 students across 26 programmes — NCV, NATED N4–N6, QCTO Occupational Certificates and Skills Programmes. Every qualifying South African student attends fully funded by NSFAS. We are DHET accredited, QCTO registered and partnered with every relevant SETA, from MERSETA to CATHSSETA.
Our purpose is simple: equip the next generation of artisans, technicians and entrepreneurs so the Northern Cape's economy keeps moving — and so every learner who walks through our doors leaves with a recognised qualification and a real career ahead of them.

The official commitments that steer NCR TVET College.
To be a First Choice TVET College rendering quality occupational training programmes to promote poverty alleviation and sustainable development in a constantly changing technological environment.
Through delivering quality TVET occupational programmes that enable gainful youth employment, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning and respond to our dynamic skills demands.
More than a college — a partner in the future of the Northern Cape.
Every qualification we offer is built around what regional employers actually hire for — mining artisans in Kathu, hospitality in Upington, business and admin in De Aar. Our graduates leave job-ready.
NSFAS covers tuition, accommodation and a monthly allowance for qualifying students. Five campuses mean nobody in the province is more than a short trip from a classroom.
DHET registration, QCTO programme approval, SETA partnerships and a national trade test centre at Namaqualand. The qualifications you earn here are recognised everywhere in South Africa.
Our Principal and College Council bring decades of public-service, academic and industry experience to bear on every decision.
As Principal, Mr Sago is the accountable officer for the college and leads the executive team across all five campuses. He represents NCR TVET at the Department of Higher Education and Training and with the Northern Cape government, ensuring the college's strategic direction aligns with provincial economic priorities and national TVET policy.
Official headshots will be added as council members provide them.
